HEALTH recorded its debut full-length in one of the band’s favorite places–The Smell, an all-ages venue in downtown Los Angeles. The members also went out and found equipment born the same time as The Smell, mostly ribbon microphones designed by the BBC for radio broadcasts in the 1930s, stuff George Martin liked to use, and other things they didn’t even know existed. The album boasts eleven songs in less than thirty minutes–new music with old sounds.
1. Heaven 2. Girl Attorney 3. Triceratops 4. Crimewave 5. Courtship 6. Zoothorns 7. Tabloid Sores 8. //M// 9. Glitter Pills 10. Perfect Skin 11. Lost Time Debut full-length, recorded a The Smell club in LA

This is the experimental music I love and crave. Each track presents you with something new and ear-lovingly interesting. Drums are the essential element in this album and the most noticeable from track to track. Their unique style, as quoted from their page on wikipedia, is described as “artfully crafted noise and raw synth, haunting monotone vocals, and drum skills that are borderline insane”. Vocals play a vague roll throughout the album and combined with the spastic, persistent drumming create a feeling of an ritual chant gone hard noise rock. I found portions of the album to be slightly unlistenable upon first listen but after a couple more they grew appreciatively and fit nicely in with the music. Health pushes the boundaries of conventional music and extends pauses to great lengths, at times blurring the line between tracks. The album is woven seamlessly to give it the feeling of one long track and flows perfectly for listening all the way through or song by song depending on the mood.
If you’re looking for something fresh, loud, and slightly insane, this album is for you.

Not sure what the big deal is. Take Suicide and mix in a little Wolf Eyes and Presto! noise rock in a can. This is really nothing special, I promise. A bunch of fashionable kids got some effects pedals and flip around on stage. All affectation, little substance. Not impressed.
