Black & Decker AD925 Smart Scan Automotive Check Engine Light Diagnostic Tool

  • Displays codes used to diagnose and fix problems
  • Diagnose problems instantly, whether at home, in a parking lot or on the side of the road
  • Urgency Indicators display seriousness of the problem
  • Save time and money by diagnosing codes yourself instead of going to a mechanic
  • When a problem is fixed turn the check engine light off without visiting a mechanic

When your “Check Engine” light comes on, the Black & Decker AD950 self-diagnostic tool displays the same information stored in a car’s computer that a mechanic uses to diagnose and fix problems. When the “Check Engine” light comes on, for cars manufactured after 1995, insert the SmartScan in the OBDII port near the steering wheel column. The easy-to-read LED screen displays the fault code – the same information a mechanic will see – for why the “Check Engine” light illuminated. The SmartScan is sold with a reference manual of the fault codes which easily stores in the glove compartment. Urgency Indicators also display how serious the problem is. Arrow pointing to green bar indicates the car’s computer is not reporting a problem, and the Smart Scan has the ability to turn off the “Check Engine” light. Arrow pointing to yellow bar indicates the car should be looked at in the next five days. Arrow pointing to amber bar indicates a mechanic should see the car soon before further damage can occur. Arrow pointing to red bar indicates an immediate repair is needed. Catch minor problems before they become big – and expensive. Visit a mechanic armed with knowledge about what is wrong, including which parts might be affected, and don’t be charged for unnecessary repairs. If buying a used car, evaluate the overall condition of the car before purchasing. The next time your vehicle’s Check Engine Light comes on, will you know what to do? The Black & Decker Smart Scan AD925 Diagnostic Tool quickly and easily provides color-coded diagnostic information–detailing both the cause of the Check Engine Light, and severity of the problem. This information can potentially save you hundreds or thousands of dollars in costly repair bills.

The Smart Scan AD925 easily connects
to both your vehicle and computer.

Get Critical Information That’s Easy To Understand
The compact Black & Decker Smart Scan AD925 is compatible with virtually all automobiles sold in North America after 1995. It easily attaches to your vehicle’s ODB-II port, which is typically located under the dash near the steering column. Once connected, the Smart Scan A925′s Urgency Indicator will instantly alert you to the severity of the problem and tell you if it’s safe to continue driving. An arrow pointing the green bar indicates no problem, while an arrow pointing to the yellow bar indicates that the vehicle should be examined in the next 5 days. When the arrow points to the amber bar, a mechanic should check the vehicle before further damage occurs. If the arrow points to the red bar, an immediate repair is needed.

The Smart Scan AD925 also provides you with the diagnostic codes that are causing the Check Engine Light to come on. These are the same codes that a mechanic uses to diagnose and repair your car. The Smart Scan AD925 stores these codes in its memory, and can be attached to your computer through a USB connection for in-depth research on Black & Decker’s Check Engine Light Help Center. This site provides you with probable causes for the Check Engine Light, symptoms you might experience, and tells you what components are most likely involved. The USB connection also provides updates to the Smart Scan AD925, allowing you to stay current with new diagnostic codes. Black & Decker also includes a compact code reference guide for on-the-road diagnostics. Once you have determined what codes are causing the Check Engine Light to come on, the Smart Scan AD925 gives you the option of erasing the codes and turning off the Check Engine Light–all without visiting a mechanic.

After reading previous reviews I went out and purchased this scanner and to my surprise all the bells and whistles were working for me. I tried scanning my 2009 Corolla and it did NOT work, tried with my Wife 2008 Suzuki Vitara did NOT work. Tried it on a 2007 Subaru Legacy did NOT work.

But it did work on a 99 Civic, which I do not own but for the hell of it I tried it.

For not being able to work on any of my vehicles I will never recommend this product. Not too mention there is a USB port for updating the product but it can never be detected by Windows XP and Black and Decker website does not provide drivers for it. Black and Decker support also stinks.

    Stay away from this product

The B&D Smart Scan does the job easily and well. It is a quality built product that should save the owner money for years to come. I used it and replaced the AIC Valve in my Honda Accord. I saved $225 compared to the dealer cost of part and labor. I purchased the part at Auto Zone for half the dealer cost. The original part was made in Mexico and the replacement from Auto Zone was Japanese. I got the best deal all around and paid for the Smart Scan with $135 to spare for the next repair! I prefer the convenience of having the tool rather than having to get to a part store for their test……my choice.

This is an excellent product. I saw a review on a local news broadcast and it truly is a deal. I’ve been looking for one of these code readers for a while and this was a great price. Does exactly as advertised.

Excellent addition to the do-it-yourselfer’s tool chest. This scanner starts “reading” as soon as you plug it in. There is no series of button pushes needed to get your code. The code appears on the tool as well as an arrow pointing to a color coded bar (green to red) indicating the seriousness of the fault.

I used mine just this past weekend when my check engine light came on. The code ‘P303′ came up indicating a misfire on cylinder 3. A quick plug wire swap and I was back in business. A simple punch of the delete button (actually two punches)and the the code is erased.

Excellent product at an excellent price!

This well-written, comprehensive book contains an incredible amount of information about the workings of automobiles. The text is very readable, and it presumes no previous knowledge about automobiles or mechanics. Chapters on tools and basic electronics theory will appeal to beginners, while their subsequent chapters build on this knowledge and get quite in-depth.The fact that the book does not focus on specific makes and models makes it all the more valuable. Descriptions of the various automotive systems typically begin with a very broad overview, followed by a description of the various different types or subsystems available, and ultimately proceed to a great level of detail. This approach makes it very easy to understand the purpose of each system as a whole, without having to get into more technical details. Of course, if the reader chooses to proceed, very in-depth details are available and are presented just as clearly. The book is thoroughly and clearly illustrated. To cap it off, numerous photo sequences show technicians performing many of the procedures which are described in the text.I have successfully used this title as as a “how-to” book when working on my own car. Even if you do not work on your own automobile, however, you will find it useful to consult to help you understand just what your car (or mechanic) is trying to tell you. It is also useful to consult when considering the purchase of a new vehicle. Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach will easily pay for itself by helping you make the right decisions about your automobile. It also makes for a phenomenal coffee-table book for the armchair gearhead.

From a novice standpoint; it’s excellent. Well, I practically grew-up in my dad’s garage (like many of you) but never had formal training… I’ve just finished a 5 month training course at a trade school and this was one of the text books. Very well organized, easy to read, good illustrations, and it’s a great
overview of automotive systems in general. A solid introductory.

This is a textbook and can be quite technical in terms of the electronics, etc.. It is not for the casual reader, but is for someone who is serious about the subject. There is very detailed information on theory and operation of all the automotive systems. Main reason I purchased was it gives all the details along with great photographs in color. The book is high dollar, but you are paying for quality. This book gives you the knowledge that makes it easier to understand the specific repair manual for you automobile. This book pays for itself. You want both the basics and advanced topics, BUY IT. I suggest you do not buy this as a repair manual since each car is different in terms of component location.
